Soft Landscaping: The Spinneys, Warwickshire

We were contracted by the private developer of these two prestigious houses in Warwickshire to provide a wildlife corridor surrounding the site including native trees and woodland wildflower seed mix. Planting began in April 2018 and had to be completed in May.

4th Corner was the sole provider of soft landscaping for the project as well as being project advisors. We supplied and planted bare root trees with stakes, ties and shelters, and seeded wildflower corridors with Cotswold Seed mix. We also gave the Cotswold Seed Mix the best possible start by using a tractor-mounted power rake and seeded with a Blec Multiseeder. The work also included the levelling and turfing of lawn areas around existing mature trees.

We planted 725 trees/whips in the wildlife corridor including native specimen trees, scrub and understorey planting. Varieties included Acer campestre, Alnus glutinosa, Betulus pendula, Crataeagus monogyna, Corylus avellane, Ilex aquifolium, Malus sylvestris, Prunus avium, Querus robur, Querus petraea and Viburnum opulus. Moreover, Planting also included new ‘semi-improved’ species – rich grassland, new swale and herb/shrub planting and new species-rich hedgerow.

The challenges on this project in Warwickshire included working with heavy, wet, clay soil and working against a tight schedule. However, we successfully completed the works for this rewarding project on time.
